Baker, California
Baker is a census-designated place located in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It is situated in the Mojave Desert along Interstate 15, approximately midway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Baker is known for being a gateway to Death Valley National Park, which is located to the northeast.
One of the most recognizable landmarks in Baker is the “World’s Tallest Thermometer,” a large thermometer that stands over 130 feet tall. It was built to commemorate the highest temperature ever recorded in the United States, which was 134 degrees Fahrenheit (56.7 degrees Celsius) in Furnace Creek Ranch, Death Valley, on July 10, 1913.
Baker serves as a rest stop for travelers heading to and from Las Vegas and offers various services, including gas stations, restaurants, and motels. The town’s economy is largely driven by tourism and the transportation industry due to its strategic location along Interstate 15.
