They all adapted to live in this harsh environment.History of PeopleNative American Tribes:It has been home to many Native Americans —each band utilized the land in their own way for collecting food and other materials for thousands of years.Explorers and Settlers:Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, this desert had been crossed by European explorers and settlers. Their routes included the Old Spanish Trail; later, the railroads made it easier for more people to settle in the region.Points of InterestJoshua Tree National Park:With its wild rock formations, its great flora and fauna, it is perfect for rock climbing, hiking, and stargazing.Protecting the DesertIssues:Some of the problems that threaten the Mojave Desert are climate change, lack of water, and habitat destruction through development and recreation.Solutions:In protected areas, there are efforts at conversation where the ecosystem and natural beauty of the desert is being strictly protected.
