Sugarloaf/Grapevines

Long before the arrival of white settlers, this site, with its precious water holes, was a crucial stop for desert Native American tribes. They would rest, feast, and often stay for several days before continuing their journey. The tribes most commonly associated with this area were Southern Piutes and Chemehuvi from the north and east and Mojaves from the Colorado River region. The petroglyphs and pictographs scattered throughout the desert are silent signs of the long-standing presence and rich history of these Native peoples.
