Goodsprings, Nevada
Stone CabinThe Campbell Stone Cabin is the oldest building in Goodsprings and one of the very oldest in all of Clark County. It was built way back in 1886 by three men, namely A.G. Campbell, Jonas Taylor, and William Smith. These guys were miners who had come to the area with the hope of getting rich. It is a simple but sturdy construction of rocks, carefully put on top of each other, with no cement to hold these together. Such a construction is termed "dry-laid." A.G. Campbell was no ordinary miner; rather he was a well-to-do investor from Utah who owned the majority of Goodsprings including most of the town, the claim to the Keystone, Argentena, Golden Chariot, and Barefoot mines. The cabin did more than serve as a home-producing power and water for use in the Argentena mine, over a mile from it. Today, the Campbell Stone Cabin is a real treasure from a historical point of view. It allows us to imagine how life looked in those very early years of Goodsprings, when mining was the big thing and the town was just becoming settled. |
