Route 66 -
Cajon Pass
Cajon JunctionCajon Junction is a small community that sits right where California State Route 138 (also known as Pearblossom Highway) and Interstate 15 cross paths. This spot is tucked into the northern part of the Cajon Pass, a well-known mountain pass in San Bernardino County, California. At about 3,113 feet above sea level, Cajon Junction is nestled between two significant mountain ranges: the northeastern San Gabriel Mountains and the San Bernardino Mountains. This gives the area a unique landscape, with rugged terrain and scenic views. The junction is also historically important. It lies along the old National Old Trails Road, which was part of the early routes people used to travel across the country. Additionally, it's close to the San Andreas Fault, a major geological feature that's well-known for causing earthquakes in California. Nearby, you'll find the Mormon Rocks, a series of striking rock formations that were named after the Mormon settlers who passed through this area in the 1850s. These rocks are a popular spot for visitors who are interested in geology, history, or just enjoying the natural beauty of the region. |
