As you continue downstream, the river begins to narrow and the banks grow steeper. Now you're officially in Topock Gorge. Towering volcanic cliffs close in, streaked with mineral deposits in rusty reds, golds, and browns. Keep an eye out for ancient Mojave petroglyphs etched into the rock. The water gets clearer here, and you may spot striped bass or carp below the surface. This stretch feels remote and untouched—like a hidden canyon waiting to be discovered.
