William "Burro" Schmidt spent 38 years digging through Copper Mountain in the El Paso range. Folks would ask why he was doing it, he would reply, "A shortcut". After completing the nearly one half mile long tunnel, he lost interest in mining and simply walked away. A monument to determination and perserverance.
