Food Chains
Desert Food WebsThe interconnected feeding relationships in an ecosystem. These relationships can be complex; some organisms may feed on more than one trophic level, or changes may occur depending on a species' life history stages or the availability of food. If we are familiar with how energy moves through the system and the individual chains within the ecosystem, it is easier to visualize and understand how the ecosystem functions as a network or web.--- Lowest Level - Plants Primary Producers An organism capable of using the energy derived from light or a chemical substance in order to manufacture energy-rich organic compounds, mainly green plants. Middle Level - Plant Eaters Primary Consumers Primary consumers are plant-eaters (also called herbivores). Herbivores Insects Lizards Tortoise Mid-upper level Secondary Consumers Small Predators Carnivores Insectivores Top Level Large Predators Carnivores Decomposers Organisms such as fungi and bacteria that feed on dead material causing the chemical breakdown of the material. with each link dependent on the one below it for survival Biome - An ecosystem that covers a large geographic area where plants of one (are adapted) {type live due} to the specific climate (of) {in} the area. Desert Food PyramidA pyramid representing trends in food consumption, with the lowest level (primary producers) having the greatest total biomass, ... |
