A Lakeside Drive



A great introduction to the valley, you can get a sense of what this cool alpine lake is all about. Quality family fun for all ages includes a variety of stopping points for nature walks, picnics, and bicycling. It's also a great way to get oriented for future visits.

Duration: 1-2 hours

Points of Interest: Stanfield Marsh and Boardwalk (walk along the shoreline); Stanfield Cut-Off (go fishing, look for Bald Eagles in the winter and water birds in all seasons); Pine Knot Landing, Bear Creek Overlook and Big Bear Dam; the Village

Along the Way

Grout Bay Picnic Area
Look for eagles, aquatic life, trout, water birds, nesting birds and alpine plants. (closed in winter to protect eagles)

Meadow's Edge Picnic Area
Picnic among the juniper trees next to the water. Look for wildlife, especially birds
