Holcomb Valley Adventure

Butler Peak Historic Fire Lookout

Visit a historic fire lookout to see how the sentinels of the forest have carefully watched for fires over the years. Follow the road for to Butler Peak for breathtaking views of the high desert, San Gorgonio Wilderness, San Gabriel Mountains, Big Bear Valley and surrounding San Bernardino Mountains.

Season: Late May to November, year-round when snow allows; fire lookout open only in summer and fall (closing date varies depending on weather)

Audience: Active adults, families, mountain bikers

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate, 7 miles of dirt road; 1/4 mile steep trail to tower.

Duration: 1-2 hours

Points of Interest: Historic Lookout operated by hosts; back road to Green Valley Lake (closed in winter); Gray's Peak Trail provides hiking opportunities
