The Ancestral Mojave River

Lake Manix

Lake Manix was the largest lake of the Mojave River system. It may have existed as far back as 470,000 years ago. About 14,000 years ago, while at a high water mark, a seismic event could have caused a breach in the basin shoreline beginning the formation of Afton Canyon.
