Arch Rock
Mineralogy![]() All rocks are composed of minerals, and mineral content plays a major role in the classification systems used to describe and name them. White Tank Granite has three prominent minerals that are prominent to many types of igneous rocks. If you look closely at the rocks exposed in this area, you will see a clear grey, glassy material known as quartz, a milky white mineral called feldspar, and a flaky black material called biotite. Don't let the rusty mineral confuse you. This is simply material from minerals that have decomposed from exposure to the environment. In the past, geologists have called this rock by other names, including White Tank Monzonite and White Tank Monzogranite. < Previous --- Next > |
