Titus Canyon

Titus Canyon Narrows, Death Valley photo

Strata of Historical Antiquity

The geological formations exposed in Titus Canyon represent an inverted stratigraphic sequence, meaning that the layers have been flipped over. This is due to tectonic forces that have folded and thrust these layers into their present position. The walls of the canyon consist of sedimentary rock, most importantly limestone of Cambrian age, roughly 500 million years old. These limestones formed in warm, shallow marine environments that once covered this region.
