Oasis Formation

Oasis formation at Oasis of Mara
The Oasis of Mara is near a scarp (steep slope) formed by action of the Pinto Mountain Fault. Land on the north is moving westward and land on the south is moving eastward, causing tension to build over time. Periodic earthquakes release built-up tension.
