Hesperia, CaliforniaThe Flintstone House![]() This dome-shaped dwelling is inspired by the setting from the stone-age cartoon The Flintstones, located in Hesperia, California. The house is unique and private; however, the architecture has made it a local landmark. Built in 1976 with a method called "shotcrete," which sprays concrete onto a metal frame, the house has a round, cave-like shape. Its natural form and smooth, curved surfaces remind one of an ancient home with a creative twist. The building is painted in natural colors, adding to its Flintstone-like appeal. Although one cannot enter this house, it can easily be viewed from the highway and has been a pleasurable stop for High Desert travelers. It does express the creativity and singularity of desert structures. Please do not disturb the occupants. |
