Gold Mines: Joshua Tree National Park:

Desert Queen Mine

After somewhat dubious beginings, the Desert Queen Mine became one of the most profitable mines in the area. The combination of shafts in the claim produced well over 3,000 ounces of gold throughout nearly 75 years of operation.

Mining was Bill Keys' primary source of income and he owned several claims in connection with the Desert Queen Mine. The one stamp mill was salvaged from another mine and broght to the ranch to demonstarte gold milling. At the ranch he erected a small stamp mill and Chilean mill where he processed his ore from his mine as well as that brought in by other prospectors.
