Victorville, CA
Old Victor School![]() In the spring of 1922, with the rapid growth of the community, largely due to the expansion of the cement plant, the matter of a new school was in the talks. In early April a mass meeting considered a bond issue for the new school. Less than two months later the bond was passed and an architect engaged to design what has for many years been called the Old Victor School. As bonds were being sold by the county, the district trustees were preparing to put the construction contract for the bids. They also prepared to purchase the entire block between Fifth and Sixth Streets. In 1960 the school was closed and used primarily for storage. In June 1982 the Victor Elementary School District decided to dispose of the school. As a result of strong public support, the Victorville City Council adopted a resolution for the purchase of the property so that the building, its integrity, and historical significance could be preserved. In February 1983 restoration was started and an open house was held on July 2, 1985, after the renovation process was completed. - City of Victorville |
