Fairground Sign

Originally designed for Sunland Ford, the sign eventually found a second life at the local fairgrounds. Once Sunland Ford decided they didn't need the sign anymore, it was temporarily stashed at the fairgrounds. When the fairgrounds realized they could easily change "FORD" to "FAIR," they decided to keep it, adding a few creative touches along the way. Neon signs like this one were hugely popular in the 1940s and added vibrant, eye-catching appeal to places along Route 66 and beyond.
