Valley of Fire
Rainbow VistaRainbow Vista: A favorite photo point with a panoramic view of multi-colored sandstone. |
Park FeaturesRainbow Vista is a scenic area in Valley of Fire State Park, located in Nevada. It's known for its vibrant and colorful rock formations, with layers of red, pink, orange, and yellow hues that make it look like the rocks were painted by nature itself. These colors are the result of ancient sand dunes that have shifted and solidified over millions of years. The area offers great opportunities for photography, especially around sunrise and sunset when the light enhances the vibrant colors.Visitors can explore a short trail through Rainbow Vista that leads to a viewpoint overlooking the canyons and valleys. It's a popular spot for hiking and sightseeing, with the panoramic views giving you a glimpse of the unique desert landscape. The trail is easy to navigate, making it great for casual hikers, but it's always good to bring plenty of water and sun protection since the desert can get quite hot. Along with its stunning visual appeal, Rainbow Vista is also a place where you might see some local wildlife like lizards, desert bighorn sheep, and various bird species. |
The Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada does not have modern cabins for rent, but it has historic stone cabins constructed by the CCC back in the 1930s. These served as wayside cabins, or shelters, for travelers and have been preserved today as a part of the park's historic landmark. Native sandstone went into their construction, helping them merge into the surrounding red rock landscape, a must-see sight for anyone who visits the park.
You cannot stay in these stone cabins today, but the park provides various camping options-most excitingly, sites with a spectacular view of the red rock formations. If you need to stay somewhere close, you'll find places to stay in the surrounding towns of Overton or Mesquite, or even Las Vegas-one hour's drive from the park.
