Mouse's Tank

Photo of Mouse's Tank in Valley of Fire, Nevada

The site known today as Mouse’s Tank preserves a natural basin where rainwater collects after desert storms. Ancient petroglyphs line the surrounding cliffs, linking the area’s deeper prehistoric past with its more recent frontier legend. The nearby Bonelli Landing on Lake Mead marks the location of Daniel Bonelli’s original homestead and ferry, a vital crossing and trade point during the early days of settlement in southern Nevada.

Mouse's Tank is named after a Southern Paiute man nicknamed "Mouse." In the 1890s, he was accused of various crimes, including theft and murder. Legend has it that he used this area as a hideout, utilizing the natural water source and the rugged terrain to evade capture.
