Highway 38

State Route 38, also known as the "Rim of the World Scenic Byway", is a picturesque alternative route to Big Bear Lake, running from Redlands through the San Bernardino Mountains. Unlike the steeper and more winding Highway 18, this route offers a more gradual ascent, making it a preferred choice for travelers looking for a scenic and less congested drive.

Route Highlights:

Begins in Redlands, passing through the rolling foothills of the San Bernardino National Forest. Winds through Mill Creek Canyon, offering stunning views of rugged mountain landscapes. Passes Angelus Oaks, a small mountain community with access to hiking trails and campgrounds. Climbs to Onyx Summit (8,443 feet), the highest highway pass in Southern California. Descends into Big Bear Valley, offering breathtaking views of Big Bear Lake.

Scenic Beauty: A quieter, forested drive with stunning vistas.
Less Traffic: An alternative to the often-busy Highway 18.
Recreation Access: Hiking, camping, and snow activities along the route.
