Doble Cemetery
Doble Cemetery is located near Big Bear City, San Bernardino County, California. This historical cemetery dates back to the late 19th century and served the mining town of Doble, originally known as Bairdstown. The town materialized in the second gold rush in 1873 and was founded by Elias "Lucky" Baldwin near today's Baldwin Lake with the usual amenities common to those times: saloons, hotels, blacksmith shops. With mining towns being rather rough-and-tumble, a cemetery became a necessity. Today, Doble Cemetery remains one of the few remnants of the town, with about 25 identified graves. The site can be accessed on Holcomb Valley Road, approximately four to five miles northeast of Big Bear City. It can be found in visitors 50 yards in and 200 yards to the right on Holcomb Valley Road, near its junction with State Route 18. |
