Petroglyphs
Animals in Rock ArtAnimal figures may depict the spirit helpers of the shaman, which often took animal form. The most common were the bighorn sheep and the rattlesnake.< Back - Next > Editor's Note: The bighorn is definately the most prominent of the animals shapes found in petroglyphs. A variation I find interesting is what I believe to be an antelope figure. Typically, with horns shorter and less curved, these may be mistaken for bighorn sheep. After these two, then it seems the snake is most numerous. Many of what could be birds in flight are also observed. |
