Cloudburst to Aliso Springs

From Cloudburst Summit, the Pacific Crest Trail heads west through the high country of the San Gabriel Mountains toward Aliso Springs. The route follows mountain slopes and ridges, passing between wooded stretches and open, brush-covered ground. Breaks in the trees reveal rugged ridgelines and deep canyons. Your photo tour follows this westbound direction.
The vegetation changes with slope exposure and moisture. Cooler slopes support conifers, while sunny ground carries manzanita, mountain whitethorn, scrub oak, and other mountain shrubs. This mixture of forest and chaparral reflects the varied growing conditions along the mountain crest.
The best ecological subsection link for this high-elevation stretch is Upper San Gabriel Mountains (M262Be). It describes the range's cooler mountain terrain, with steep slopes, narrow canyons, granitic and metamorphic rocks, and pine and mixed-conifer forests. The adjoining San Gabriel Mountains (M262Bd) covers lower, warmer terrain. These descriptions support the ecological setting, but I have not confirmed a subsection boundary crossing along this particular stretch.
