Water at the Oasis > United States surveyors first visited and recorded this area in 1855 and 1856. They found marsh plants surrounding several ponds and water flowing out into the desert 1/2-mile to the north. Water was so plentiful that the Serrano Indians were diverting it to cultivate corn, beans, squash, and melons.
