Joshua Tree National Park - Oasis of Mara

Reptiles

At least thirteen species of reptiles have been observed at the oasis. Western whiptail lizards (Cnemidophorus tigris) scurry about, hunting for insect prey. Side-blotched lizards (Uta stansburiana) remain active during the coldest of months of the year. Common kingsnakes (Lampropeltis getulus) have a diverse diet of small mammals, birds, lizards and snakes.
