Common Plants of the Oasis > The California fan palm (Washingtonia filifera) is a relic of a cooler, moister time. Today it is restricted to sites where water is near the surface. Through the fan palm does not have annual growth rings like most trees, experts estimate its life span at 150 to 200 years.
