Other Unusual Plant Communities

    Calcicolous Scrub:

    Vegetation associated with limestone and dolomitic outcrops occurring in the Providence, New York, and Clark mountains. Characterized by the occurrence of many uncommon plants.

    Sagebrush Scrub:

    Great Basin sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata tridentata) occurs in the Round and Gold Valleys in the Mid Hills area. This community is typical of the Great Basin desert to the north and is one example of the intersection of the three great southwestern deserts.

    Desert Grassland:

    A large expanse of desert grassland containing about 20 species of perennial grasses is found in eastern Lanfair Valley. Shadscale Scrub: A stand of Atriplex confertifolia occurs at Valley Wells and is characteristic of alkaline soils of the Great Basin Desert.
