More Dumont Dunes photos

The Dumont Dunes are bordered by steep volcanic hills and the slow running Amargosa River, the area is easily recognized from a distance by its distinctive sand dunes. The tallest dunes rise up to 500' above the river.

Vegetation in the area consists of creosote scrub, a few annual grasses and wildflowers in the spring. The low elevation (700' above sea level) makes for warm to extremely hot conditions in the spring and summer months. Wildflower displays can be very impressive in the early spring. The Kingston Range Wilderness borders the dunes to the north.
