Stone Hotel & People's General Store - Built between 1860 and 1875 the original 2 story structure had a large glass dome above the lobby which acted as a beacon for weary desert travelers. Surviving three fires, the last in 1908, the structure was rebuilt to the current 1 story form. The two foot thick stone walls are still in great condition. The hotel provides one of the few remaining examples in California of what it was like for the early traveler. A few of those who have stayed in the hotel include Death Valley Scotty, Lt. Governor John Daggett, John Muir (whose daughter was a resident of Daggett) and "Borax" Smith. The People's General Store served Daggett in the early 1900's.
